Brent G. Burpee - Attorney Profile
Brent Burpee is licensed by the Texas Bar after having gained valuable experience in Missouri and California on a wide variety of legal matters. While Brent's practice focuses on criminal defense, wills and probate law, and family law, he has worked countless hours on real estate, insurance, and consumer protection cases, and has recently expanded into employment and immigration law, areas of concern to many of our clients.
Brent was raised in the Midwest before spending time in Dallas and Los Angeles, where he graduated magna cum laude from California State University - Northridge with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Public Policy. Having traveled extensively as a United States Coast Guard contractor, Brent had an interest in world issues and was named the President of the California State University - Northridge Model United Nations team. After receiving awards at every Model United Nations conference he attended, Brent was named the Southern California United Nations Student of the Year in 2005. Brent was also elected as an Associate Justice on the California State University - Northridge Judicial Court.
Brent returned to the Midwest following graduation, attending the Washington University in Saint Louis School of Law, where he served as an Associate Editor on the Journal of Law and Policy and worked with the St. Louis City Office of the Missouri Public Defender, second-chairing four major felony trials and inspiring his law school note entitled "Juror Investigation and the Internet". From there he spent time with the United States Attorney's Office in the Eight Circuit Criminal Division before rounding out his experience working insurance defense for Safeco Insurance. During law school, Brent's passion for world issues remained, and he volunteered with the Friendship Village in Hanoi, Vietnam and the Chase Foundation in Salta, Argentina, focusing on underdeveloped children and women's issues.
With his return to Texas following law school, Brent was a co-chair on the DAYL “Lawyers Promoting Diversity” committee, and is now completely at home in the exciting and diverse community of Austin. Brent is an avid fan of the arts and technology, having worked on special effects in Hollywood films and television programs for a decade, including "Star Trek", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and "Firefly". He also regularly attends music festivals and live events.
