Sex Crimes

Facing a sex crime charge is a difficult and damaging experience for any defendant. In some cases, the defendant has clearly committed a crime and must mitigate the damage through the best possible plea; in other cases, there is no evidence of a crime committed, and the defendant needs a qualified attorney to argue on their behalf. One way or another, any plea or trial resolution may result in a defendant's presence on a "sex offender" list or revocation of legal immigrant status, so proper defense is extremely important.

Defendants facing a solicitation, prostitution, or indecent exposure charges will frequently want to resolve the legal process as quickly and easily as possible. Generally the police report will confirm facts that are not in the defendant's favor, and the chances of winning at trial are minimal at best. In those cases, negotiating a deferred adjudication or lesser offense becomes the focus, and an attorney will need to collect as much evidence as possible to establish the good character of the defendant.

Those facing possession of child pornography charges are in a much more difficult position, since these charges are rarely filed without a significant amount of evidence and an electronic "paper trail". Additionally, most offers from the district attorney will be for prison time, so a trial may be worth considering, and hiring an expert witness to debunk the computer evidence may be required. You must hire an attorney immediately if you are accused of possession of child pornography, rape, or sexual assault. These major felonies are life-changing events and must be treated as such.

In most counties you are required to appear at all your court settings prior to accepting a plea agreement; however, in some counties hiring an attorney will allow that attorney to appear for you on misdemeanor cases.
